West Cumbria Motorsport Club was formed when West Cumberland Motorsport Club merged with the Workington and District Motorsport Club back in the mid 90′s. But West Cumberland Motorsport Club dates back to the early 1900′s when it was know as the West Cumberland Cycle Club. The club was then reformed after the war, and in 1923 was renamed West Cumberland Motorcycle Club and enjoyed many years organising small trials and events.
It was in the 60′s when the club started to get noticed and changed the name again to West Cumberland Motorsport Club as it was now organising stage (Fellside Stages) and night events (Peak Revs). When the two clubs merged the Workington and District Motorclub were running the Derwent Stages, and under our new club name ran this up until sadly the foot and mouth struck Cumbria. Unfortunately for us the burial site for the cattle was where we held the Derwent Stages Rally and we had lost our event to this awful tragedy.
After many years of looking we finally found a venue for our next rally, Greystoke Stages, of which we are in the third year of organising this event. Greystoke Stages is the only single venue forest rally in Cumbria.
Greystoke Stages is held in the same forest which is used to test the Ford World Rally Cars. It is probably one of the smoothest forests around.
West Cumbria Motorsport Club have also brought to Cumbria the Autosolo events, and are again in our third year of running an Autosolo Championship.
The Club Magazine is produced every month and can either be sent via email or post. The magazine will keep you informed of what the club is doing, it is full of great features such as reports and news from club members.
