This page will try and explain a few of the events we organise and run.
Twelve car rallies;
These are general run through the winter months as the organisers usually use normal roads and the dark nights are allways better, as not many people walk their dog in the cold winter months. All you need to take part in one of these is a normal car, nothing fancy and a navigator (someone who can read a map), a light for the car, a OS map of the area, pencil and a roamer (not a must) and most important a watch. Don't be scared off by all the gear you need as there is always someone on hand that will try and help out where they can.
The object is that you are given a series of clues that will coincide with places on the map i.e. spot heights, grid references, places on the map,and herringbone's, you will set off at a given time and have a certain amount of time to complete the stage. You will have anything from 3 to as many as 7 stages in one rally, again don't be scared of by the amount of information given here most people start off by doing tabletop rallies first (look further down for an explanation on these) as there are a good learning tool. The most important thing is that with all motorsport it is safe, well organised and above all enjoyed.
Tabletop rallies;
These are basically the same as above, you need all the same gear but the big difference is that it is done on a table, hence the name. The good thing about these are that the organiser is there and you can ask quistions if you get stuck or shout at them if you get lost. As mentioned before a lot of good navigators started on these to practice on before going into the car for the twelve car rallie's. This year the club is running a Tabletop Championship so come along and have some fun.
Autotest;
These again can use normal road going cars and can be on either grass or tarmac. Basically the object of a Autotest is that the organiser lays out a course and you have to go round in the fastest time without incident, penelties occur if you knock over the cones laying out the course, it's as simple as that.
Autosolo's
These are like Autotests but bigger, you will only go forwards and hardly ever use your handbrake, the course again will be marked out with cones and you have to go round without incident, you are timed and the lowest time after all test are completed is deemed the Winner.
PCT(Production Car Trails)
This is usually done on a hill, The organizer will lay out a course of gates with wooden Canes and what you have to do is go through the cane gates without stopping or touching them, on each cane is a number from 1 to 10, 10 being the first gate you pass through, the higher up the hill you go the lower the number and if you go all the way through the course you will get 0, the lowest score at the end of the day wins.
Motorsport does not need to be an expensive hobby, the events we run like the ones above don't cost hundreds of pounds to take part in and if like all of us you like a good natter about motersport we also hold a clubnight every month for a get together and a crack. the dates and times for our events are in the events page of this web site and don't forget if there is anything you need to know just e-mail ryan.winthrop@mypostoffice.co.uk
